This article introduces groups and how they work with content blocks.

About

In Courso, a group is an object that contains block content.

Every time a layout is added to a page, the content will sit in a group. There may be multiple groups on a layout. A group can contain a single block, or multiple blocks.

Group Toolbar

When you hover over content on a page, a grey frame means the content is bound within a group. If you hover on the grey dots at the top of the frame, the frame will turn blue. To select a group, click on the blue dots. This reveals the group toolbar.

There are quick access functions available on a group toolbar. These include: color background options, shadow, rounded corners, alignment, animation, duplication, and removing the group and deleting all blocks within it.

All groups on layouts below the first layout, will display an animation icon on the toolbar.

To access advanced group features, click the dots on the toolbar.

Advanced Features

A group can have a palette color applied to its background. A group can also have an image applied to its background. The format section shows most of the same controls seen on the toolbar.

In addition, the group can be hidden on mobile. For example, the layout might contain an image block, and it is not necessary to display the image on mobile.

Animation

The animation section shows styles that can be applied at the group toolbar as well. Setting animation here will only apply it to a single group. Advanced controls are: Content padding, group padding, and group margin. Almost always, a group has all three set to Default. As you can see, there is a lot of flexibility for authors to tweak padding to suit their content set out.

Moving a Group

Hover over the group, select the dots at the top of the blue frame, then drag and move the group to a new position.

Using the Right Click Menu

Right clicking on a group, will reveal options like: edit group, edit group background, remove group, and you can also make a copy of the group.

Horizontal Spacing between Groups

You can also change the space between groups. Hover, click, and drag the vertical handle.
