What is usage charge against?
Usage charges currently apply to these three areas:
AI usage
Data Storage in GB.
Bandwidth in GB.
Why does Courso charge for usage?
As a business, we try to make billing clear, simple, and reasonable. However, sometimes we have to pass on our costs plus a margin in the areas of usage including: data storage, bandwidth, and .AI.
We outline usage charges here in detail, and usage charges are also noted in our Terms of Use which outlines the agreement we have with a subscriber on sign-up and then when upgrading to a paid plan.
When is usage charged?
When any allocated free amount is exceeded in a month. Each usage charge outlined here (Ai, Storage, Bandwidth) will appear as a line item in the next invoice. Sometimes lines will appear as $0.00.
AI Usage
What we provide customers takes a lot of consideration and effort to build, maintain and improve. In summary AI usage charges are set out as:
All accounts will receive a small monthly AI credit.
Once exceeded AI usage across an account will be totalled and on-charged as usage charges in increments of $2.00.
Non usage of AI, or non exceeding credits in a month does not accumulate credits or rollover to future months.
The charges are reasonable based on usage in a month.
AI usage will be charged retospectively in the following month's invoice and display as an additional line item.
AI charges we incur may change and these changes may reflect in how we on-charge our customers.
Storage and Bandwidth
Each Plan has an allocated amount of storage [in Gigabytes (GB)] and an allocated amount per month in Bandwidth usage [in Gigabytes (GB)].
Any amount above the allocated used in a month is charged back the following month and will appear on the next month's invoice.
Unused allocated bandwidth in a month does not carry over to the next.
Usage charges are not refundable.
Allocated Amounts Per Plan
Essentials Plan
15GB storage
10GB bandwidth per month
Team Plan
30GB storage
30GB bandwidth per month
As you can see these starting amounts are generous and for the most part you will not incur any additional usage charges.
Usage Charges
Usage above allocated is charged back the following month. Usage charges are:
Data storage @0.04cents per GB
Bandwidth usage @0.12 cents per GB
🤑 Any usage charges incurred are billed in US Dollars.
Example of an Essentials Plan at month end:
Storage: 25GB
Bandwidth used in month: 50GB
Calculation: $1.00 + $6.00 = $7.00 usages charges less plan allocated amounts for 15GB storage/10GB bandwidth equalling $1.80 will be deducted.
This results in $5.20 of usage charges that will be applied as additional lines ($0.40 / $4.80) in the following month's invoice.
Example of a Team Plan at month end:
Storage: 100GB
Bandwidth used in month: 1,000GB
Calculation: $4.00 + $120.00 = $124.00 usages charges less plan allocated amounts for 30GB storage/30GB bandwidth equalling $4.80 will be deducted.
This results in $119.20 of usage charges that will be applied as additional lines ($2.80 / $116.40) in the following month's invoice.
